Quick Answer
Follow either wall continuously to reach the Hedge Maze exit, or choose paths toward the distant Castle. The entrance opens after you complete Sewers. Keep moving around Corrupted Amalgamations; shoot their eyes, then use explosives while they are down.
Where is the Hedge Maze entrance?
The Hedge Maze entrance opens after you complete Sewers, making it SULFUR's fourth area.
If you have not unlocked it, finish the Sewers walkthrough before looking for a route through the hedges. The maze has no separate floors. You are looking for a way through interconnected passages, rather than another floor or a traditional boss encounter.
How do you find the Hedge Maze exit?
Stay with either the left wall or the right wall until you reach the exit.
Choose one wall
Pick the left or right side and follow that wall continuously. The walls connect, so this method eventually leads you out. Use this approach when the branching passages have already left you lost.
Use the Castle as a landmark
Alternatively, navigate toward the distant Castle. At a junction, choose the passage that takes you closer to it. Keep the Castle as your reference until you reach the Castle Dungeon entrance.
Extra jumps or increased jump height let you peek over the hedges to check your surroundings. Invisible collision surfaces stop you from crossing the walls, even when you can see over them.
Keep moving when enemies close in
Sprint past enemies and avoid getting caught in a corner or dead end. They must stop and wind up before their melee attacks can hurt you. Multiple enemies become dangerous when they trap you together.
Movement speed and extra jumps help you escape those situations. Extra jumps can also let you jump over enemies blocking your route. Check the best food guide when preparing food for your next attempt.
Identify the exit entrances
At the exit, Dungeon is on the left and Castle is on the right. The Castle route is an optional shortcut, available after you have entered Castle at least once. Reaching the maze exit alone does not satisfy that requirement.
Is there a Hedge Maze map?
You do not need a map: follow one wall or head toward the Castle.
For a view beyond your current passage, peek over a hedge using extra jumps or increased jump height. Seeing the route beyond a wall does not let you cross that wall.
How do you handle the eyes and Corrupted Amalgamations?
Shoot every eye until the creature collapses, then use a grenade or explosive ammunition to destroy it permanently.
At least four Corrupted Amalgamations spawn at random positions throughout the maze. They move extremely fast and can seem immortal. The eye-covered creatures can recover after a short delay, so collapsing one is only a temporary opening.
| Situation | What you should do |
|---|---|
| A creature is still standing | Aim at its eyes, which are its only vulnerable targets. |
| You have shot every eye and it collapses | Use a grenade or explosive ammunition before it recovers. |
| You need to get past without fighting | Sprint; its melee attack requires a stop and windup. |
| Multiple enemies block a corner | Use extra jumps to get over them and avoid being trapped. |
Do not treat a collapsed creature as permanently dead. Use that opening for explosives, or keep moving toward the exit.
What should you collect before leaving?
Check the scattered chests for Oils and other valuable loot, but keep an escape route when enemies approach.
There are no vendors in the Hedge Maze. The best Oils guide helps you compare Oils you bring out of its chests. Once you reach the exit, use the SULFUR game walkthrough to continue through the surrounding areas.
